Simon Tumba


Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer

Simon is the CEO of SY&T Communications Limited, a strategic marketing communications expert with over 25 years experience. He’s an Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Business Administration, Zaria graduate, and started his career in journalism at the defunct Concord group where he covered the Transport and Aviation sector for Business Concord between 1989-91. In 1992, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest editors, and the founding Editor of Aviation International magazine, a pioneer aviation magazine in Nigeria.

A celebrated travel and aviation journalists, Tumba wrote for various global aviation publications, including, Airline Business (owned by the UK-based Reed Business Group), Air Finance Journal (owned by Euromoney), Commercial Aviation Report and African Airlines magazine, (now titled African Aviation) between 1990 -2003.

In recognition of his contribution to aviation journalism, he won the Best Aviation Journalist Award of British Airways at the age of 28.

In 1995, he founded SY& T Communications Ltd, a Public Relations firm, where he led the company to work for government and blue chip brands including, British Airways, Michelin, Dornier, Dangote Group, Bi-Courtney (MMA2), Qatar Airways, Aero, Oracle, Airbus, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), European Union (EU), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Federal Ministry of Aviation, The Presidency, FXTM Arik Air and Atlantic Aviation.

His Agency offers services in reputation management, corporate communication, crisis management, public affairs and training, amongst others.

In October 2014, he founded an online publication – www.nigeriatravelsmart.com, with focus on the travel industry covering the Nigerian market, and the African Sub-Continent. The publication has hosted four major successful conferences with international and local speakers.

Tumba has been trained by the US-based National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to handle aviation crisis and has served in various aviation related conferences in Nigeria and attended various conferences in over 21 countries.

She cut her teeth in Public Relation in the late 1980s and later held the position of Public Relations Manager, in one of Nigeria’s prime hotels, Eko Hotel & Suites between 1990 –1997.

Thereafter she quit to join the SY&T Communications Limited team as Head Strategy and Business Development. She later developed the Events Management and Etiquette training unit of the company.

She worked on all the brands handled by the company since 1995.

Social media/Content Developer

She joined the company in 2017, with the task of developing the content and social media arm of the business. She has held various administerial and leadership positions in media related outfits as a content developer and editor.

Senior Accounts Manager

She started her career as a reporter at City People Magazine, one of the top soft sell magazine in Nigeria in 2004 from where she moved on to join the dynamic team at Lagos House Journal, the official journal of the Governor’s Office as a reporter in 2005.

Oyenike joined SY&T in 2009 as Senior Media Executive.

She is currently the Senior Accounts Manager. In this role, she has established and maintained strong relationship with the media. She has worked on various accounts including Oracle, FXTM, Arik Air, Aero Contractor, European Union (EU), Airbus Helicopters, IHME, Qatar Airways and the BUA Group – a top three indigenous manufacturing conglomerate in Nigeria engaged in oil and gas, real estate, cement and flour ensuring that clients continue to get positive reviews.

Digital Strategist

She holds a B.Sc in Mass Communication (Public Relations and Advertising) from Covenant University, Nigeria. Phebe has featured as a columnist for a few Nigerian online publications. In 2019, she had a stint with Toastmasters International in Washington (USA), a global education non-profit organization, as a communications officer. She went ahead to join SY&T as the digital strategist in 2020.
